Whether a family cruise, a needed getaway, or a honeymoon, Mexico cruises have something for everyone. Say hello to the pristine beaches and sparkling blue waters of Mexico, a great destination for water sports, eco-tours, and bargain shopping. If you want to visit Mayan ruins, be sure to hit Mexico’s northeast coast.

Mexico cruises: Easy to cruise, close to home
Most Mexico cruises depart from Los Angeles or San Diego, California or from Galveston, Texas. Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean are the three cruse lines that offer the most trips to Mexico. While still stateside, San Diego has plenty to do and see, including great outdoor activities and some amazing museums and attractions (think Legoland, SeaWorld San Diego, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo). Galveston, a 90-minute drive from Houston, offers 4 miles of beach within the city limits so be sure to spend a day there before or after your cruise to soak up the sun, while you aren’t moving!

Mexico cruises: Tequila and beaches abound
If you are looking for a beach, some sun, and a cocktail, Mexico is the place for you. A few of the ports one might stop at are as follows. In Puerto Vallarta, become an amateur “tequila connoisseur,” compliments of La Casa del Tequila. In Ensenada, visit Papas & Beer located near Hussong’s Cantina, which attracts a rowdy college crowd and stays open until 3 AM. Another party town, Cabo San Lucas, also offers a variety of outdoor activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, sea kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and eco-tours.

Mexico cruises: Adventure-seekers rejoice
A popular spot for those wanting to visit Mayan ruins is Progreso, because Chichen Itza is just a day trip from the port. In Cozumel (often a stop on Western Caribbean sailings) you’ll find a variety of Mayan ruins to explore, both on the island and the mainland, a 30-minute ferry ride away. Acapulco is located along Mexico’s Pacific coast and while it is famous for its cliff divers and gorgeous beaches, there is also Magico Mundo Marino, an aquarium and water park. If more historic sites interest you, there are plenty in Acapulco’s old town, such as the Nuestra Señora de la Soledad cathedral.
